Eternal Destiny

Philippians 3:18-21 NIV

[18] For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. [19] Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things. [20] But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, [21] who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.

SINS TO AVOID:

  1. Stand against the cross of Christ– unbelief on the gospel of Jesus Christ
  2. Making our stomach our god.
  3. Setting our mind on earthly things.

— We need food & other material things but these should not be the guiding principle of our lives.

PROMISES TO CLAIM :

  1. Our citizenship is in heaven.
  2. Our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, is coming back again.
  3. Our lowly bodies will be transformed into glorious body by the Lord.

EXAMPLES TO FOLLOW:

  1. Be eager for the arrival of the Lord, waiting patiently.
  2. Setting your personal goals on things with eternal value.

COMMANDMENTS TO OBEY :

SOME OTHER TEACHINGS:

  1. The enemies of Christians are real – Satan as the head.

MY REFLECTION:

I have been working in the corporate world for almost 12 years now.  But looking back, my daily existence in the corporate world is to beat the target that was set month after month. It’s good to know the tasks that I need to complete in the next couple of days, and those in my 90-day focus. I kept on learning and improving and I can see financial success as well as gaining new friends along the way.  I have gone a long way from where I started but there’s always more ahead of me. It seems that no matter how hard I try, there is always something better in this materialistic world. It’s not bad, but how would you know if enough is enough?

God is so faithful that all these years that He made ways for me to improve spiritually. He introduced me to God-fearing friends, pushed me lead a small church, and sent me overseas to preach in an international church at the heart of the city.  I can feel God’s reminder for me to focus on things that will matter in eternity (on things that concerns the Kingdom of God.) As a child of God, I am privileged to have God’s favor on my life and He is putting me in a position where I can serve Him more.  I know every day is a struggle for me to overcome my own weaknesses and to withstand the attack of Satan but thanks be to God – He is always ready to help me every day and I can claim victory in my life through Jesus Christ’s authority.

Believe that God still do miracles

Mark 5:21-24 NIV

[21] When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake, a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake. [22] Then one of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet. [23] He pleaded earnestly with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live.” [24] So Jesus went with him. …

Mark 5:35-43 NIV

[35] While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?” [36] Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.” [37] He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James. [38] When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. [39] He went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.” [40] But they laughed at him. After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was. [41] He took her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum!” (which means “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”). [42] Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished. [43] He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this, and told them to give her something to eat. …

SINS TO AVOID:

  1. Unbelief will stop you from receiving a miracle from God.
  2. Insulting someone who trusts that God will do a miracle. The Lord asked everyone who laugh at Him when He said that the girl is only sleeping to leave and so they failed to witness a miracle.

PROMISES TO CLAIM :

  1. There is nothing impossible with God – we only need to believe.
  2. In difficult times, know that the Lord Jesus will encourage us to move forward.  Notice how  the Lord encouraged Jairus by telling him that his daugther was only sleeping when a messenger just told him that his daughter was dead.

EXAMPLES TO FOLLOW:

  1. Pleading God’s intervention in behalf of our loveones – child, spouse, parents, friends… Do seek God like Jairus seek the Lord Jesus Christ for the sake of his daughter’s life.
  2. Humble yourself in front of God – like Jairus, who was a synagogue leader, was able to emotionally appeal to Jesus Christ. Our social status or positions no matter how important or successful we are should be humbled in front of God.
  3. Keep believing God’s promises no matter how the world discourages us. Jairus never lost hope when someone told him that his daughter was already dead.  He even allowed the Lord to send away the people (close friends, family members, neighbors), who came to help & comfort them because of his daughter’s death.

COMMANDMENTS TO OBEY :

  1.  Never stop believing.

SOME OTHER TEACHINGS:

  1. Our faith put us in the position to receive or see a miracle. In this event, only Jairus, the mother, Peter, James, & John were able to witness how the Lord revive the little girl. The others who were also there were asked to leave and failed to see the miracles even they were so closed with Jesus.

MY REFLECTION:

I believe with all my heart – without any trace of doubt that I can receive miracles upon miracles from God, I am receiving one now and I will continue to receive favor from the Lord. I will face my problems with certainty of victory, not with fear, because I claim by faith that God would intervene and help me. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

  1. I declare that God will use me mightily in spreading the gospel and in encouraging my fellow believers to follow Jesus to victory.
  2. I declare that God would bless me with wisdom in my work, that I will be the best in my field.
  3. I declare for financial freedom & stability to enable me support my family and participate in missions.
  4. I declare that God would provide children for my wife.

Plundering the Kingdom of Darkness

Sermon Notes from Teacher John.

Luke 11:14-23
Isaiah 48:24-25

24 Can war-booty be taken from the mighty? or can a captive of a righteous person be rescued? 25 But thus says Yahweh: “Indeed a captive of the mighty shall be taken, and the war-booty of the tyrant shall be rescued, for I myself will dispute with your opponent, and I myself will save your children.

Jesus said – I’m here and I’m here to reclaim what is mine.
Binding Satan –

Matthew 12:29
Or how can someone enter into the house of a strong man and steal his property, unless he first ties up the strong man? And then he can thoroughly plunder his house.

— Jesus took away Satan’s tools to control people.  Satan’s greatest lie is to make us believe that God is not for us. Satan blinded our eyes so that we can’t see the beauty and the glory of God in this world.

1. Deceit –
Colossians 1 – Jesus took us from the Kingdom of Satan and delivered us to the Kingdom of God. With God’s adoption, Satan lies were destroyed by God.

2. Shame / Guilt
Colossian – God has forgiven us all our trespasses by nailing it to the cross. Jesus disarmed Satan.

3. Fear
Hebrews 2 – Satan has been controlling people for the fear of death.
We no longer have to fear death because Jesus defeated death.

Acts 2:42-47

The Fellowship of the First Believers
42 And they were devoting themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayers. 43 And fear came on every soul, and many wonders and signs were being performed by the apostles. 44 And all who believed were in the same place, and had everything in common. 45 And they began selling* their* possessions and property, and distributing these things to all, to the degree that anyone had need. 46 And every day, devoting themselves to meeting* with one purpose in the temple courts* and breaking bread from house to house, they were eating their food with joy and simplicity of heart, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding every day to the total of those who were being saved.

— this community can become our community.

  1.  Remember that we are still in a fight.
  2. We forget those whom God has sent to fight along side with us

Gospel Application

  1. Work the truth of the gospel into our hearts through our devotional life with Christ.
  2. Work the truth of the gospel through confession and repentance in a community.

Gospel Ministry

  1. Demonstrating the gospel through love and justice.
  2. Proclaiming the truth of Christ to the ends of the earth.

Hiding sin is like playing with a tiger as a pet.

Find an accountability partner – talk to them weekly.

Jesus will build His church and the gates of hell will not be able to stop it.  The true and real religion is to visit and love the orphans and widows.

Jesus conquered evil by lettting it conquer Him so that we can have victory in our lives over evil.

DUA focused on Luke 11:14-23

A House Divided Cannot Stand
14 And he was expelling a mute demon. Now it happened that when* the demon came out, the man who had been mute spoke, and the crowds were astonished. 15 But some of them said, “By Beelzebul the ruler of demons he expels demons!” 16 And others, in order to* test him,* were demanding from him a sign from heaven. 17 But he, knowing their thoughts, said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and ⌊a divided household⌋ falls. 18 So if Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? For you say that I expel demons by Beelzebul. 19 But if I expel demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons expel them?* For this reason they will be your judges! 20 But if I expel demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you! 21 When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his possessions are ⌊safe⌋. 22 But when a stronger man attacks him and* conquers him, he takes away his full armor in which he trusted and distributes his plunder. 23 The one who is not with me is against me, and the one who does not gather with me scatters.

DISCOVERY:

  1. How did Jesus responded to the allegations that He is expelling demons in the name of Beelzebul in v17-18?
  2. What were the questions raised by Jesus to those who questioned Him in v19-20?
  3. According to Jesus, how can we plunder the house of a strong man in v21-22?

UNDERSTANDING:

  1. Who is Belzeebul? Why do you think some people accused Jesus that He was is expelling demons in the name of Belzeebul?
  2. How did Jesus cast out demons? If not by Belzeebul, does it mean that Jesus tied up Satan first before He plundered Satan’s kingdom by casting out demons? Why or why not?
  3. What did Jesus mean in v23 “the one who does not gather, scatters?”

APPLICATION:

  1. Do you feel Satan’s power were already defeated in your life? Why or why not?
  2. How can we tap Jesus’ power over the Kingdom of Darkness? What things can you overcome tonight with God’s help?

Victory in Jesus!

Outline Link:

Passage: Luke 5:1-6

5 On one occasion, while the crowd was pressing in on him to hear the word of God, he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret, 2 and he saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. 3 Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat. 4 And when he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” 5 And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.” 6 And when they had done this, they enclosed a large number of fish, and their nets were breaking.

DISCOVERY:

  1. What were the fishermen’s doing when the Lord  Jesus found them at verse 2?
  2.  How did Jesus managed to control the crowd from pressing on Him on verse 3?
  3.  What did the Lord asked Simon Peter to do in verse 4? How did Simon Peter reacted in verse 5?
  4. What was the result of Simon’s Peter’s obedience to the Lord?

UNDERSTANDING:

  1. Why cleaning or mending the net after a  catch-less night is important? What does it signify?
  2.  Why would Simon Peter still obey the Lord Jesus Christ despite his knowledge and experience about fishing?
  3. Why would the Lord Jesus care about providing a big catch to the fishermen?

APPLICATION:

  1. Describe a recent failure you had. How did you cope up?
  2. Give a biblical command that you find it difficult to follow? What does it take for you to trust God in this area of your life?

Victory in Jesus!

Objective:

For Christians to live a victorious life that Jesus paid for.  Victory starts the moment we believe in Jesus Christ – it starts now!

Prezi Presentation

Key Verse: John 16:33

John 16:33 ESV
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

INTRODUCTION:

There is an ongoing spiritual war between the forces of darkness and the Kingdom of God.  In this war, people’s eternal destiny is at stake whether our friends and our love ones -the people we love the most – will have a chance to encounter the Lord. Unbeliever will never read the four gospels but they might be looking in your life’s testimony. If you fail in this warfare, they might loose the opportunity of encountering God through you.

In every war, there are many battles. And everyday we face battles that need to be won with God’s help.  Satan and his demons are busy everyday in their diversion tactics to misled people to be busy on temporary things. They wanted us to won the battle in the temporary realms such as to be the wealthiest person or the most famous person or the most influential person on earth for a span of 80-100 years but lost our eternity.

Mark 8:36 (ESV)
For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?

Our God knows exactly what we need since He designed us. He knows that we need these materials things so God included these in His battle plan of redeeming humanity. God knows that you and me, like everybody else, aspire to have financial security, good relationships, knowledge, acceptance, respect and whatever else we desire so God told us to seek first His kingdom and all righteousness then He will add all of these in our lives.

Matthew 6:33 (ESV)
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

God’s battle plan is holistic because he considered both our eternal and physical needs. Just like any battle plan, each soldiers must do his or her part bravely and trust in his or her commander-in-chief orders. If we take orders from God – the all-knowing all-powerful all-loving being – then let’s follow all the way because we know that God wanted us to be victorious in our daily battles, and ultimately to take part in the victory in the war between darkness and God’s kingdom.

Romans 8:31
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be[a] against us?

Are you wondering if it’s alright not take part in this war? Honestly, neutrality is not an option here because Satan will devour anyone without God’s protection. Unless you fight with God you already lost the battle.  Have you ever encountered defeat in your daily struggle?

  • When was the last time that you were so stressed out in work?
  • When was the last time that you had money problems? Or relationship problems?
  • Do you always worry?
  • Are you happy with your life? Are you satisfied?
  • Do you think someone’s life is better than yours?
  • Do you find life worth living?

You only live once so listen to me carefully as I tell you what does the bible says about life in general so you don’t waste yours.  Who could describe life best than the author of life Himself – the Lord Jesus Christ.

Life 101

1.  Life is sacred because God created each human being in His own image. Life is a gift from God so we need to value and cherish it.

Genesis 1:27 (ESV)
So God created man in his own image,in the image of God he created him;male and female he created them.

Psalm 139:14  (ESV)
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.[a]
Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well.

2. Human beings have to work as originally designed by God.

Genesis 2:15 (ESV)
The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.

2 Thessalonians 3:10 (ESV)
For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.

3.  Satan tempted Eve to sin and until now Satan seeks to misled many people. Sin separates man from God. For every sin there is a consequence. Man needs to labor & toil as one of the consequences of our sin.

Genesis 3:17
And to Adam he said,
“Because you have listened to the voice of your wife
and have eaten of the tree
of which I commanded you,
‘You shall not eat of it,’
cursed is the ground because of you;
in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life

1 Peter 5:8  (ESV)
8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

4.  God is so merciful and gracious. He blesses us despite our disobedience.

Genesis 3:21 (ESV)
And the Lord God made for Adam and for his wife garments of skins and clothed them.

Matthew 5:45 (ESV)
… For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.

5. Jesus Christ overcame the world! The Lord Jesus Christ came to save us and give us victory over death and give back us our life. God is fighting for His children.

John 16:33 ESV
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

John 10:10 (ESV)
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

Deuteronomy 20:4 ESV
For the Lord your God is he who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to give you the victory.’

The Lord said I have overcome the world, so we are not fighting for victory but rather we are fighting in the stance of victory. The Lord had already won the war for us, all we have to do is to hold our ground. But even still – Satan and his demons will do everything to defeat you in your daily battle. And to withstand it, we need God to survive.

God provides grace to all but He is fighting for His children!  God has a plan for the redeemed and He gives special protection to them against the attack of the enemy.  So let me ask you, “Are you a child of God?” Do you have God’s special protection in your life?

Numbers 23:23 (ESV)
For there is no enchantment against Jacob,
no divination against Israel;
now it shall be said of Jacob and Israel,
‘What has God wrought!’

Romans 2:29 (ESV)
But a Jew is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter. His praise is not from man but from God.

Principle#1: Believers fight in the stance of Victory! God gives special protection & favor to His children.

If you have made the decision to make Jesus Christ your Lord, God, & Savior, CONGRATULATIONS! You will have eternal security in heaven. However, Satan would still attack you so that you will become ineffective in the advancement of the Kingdom of God.  As Jesus said that we will continue to have problems so we need to fix our eyes unto Jesus Christ as we keep our ground. What you are experiencing now has been experienced by bible heroes and let me mention some of them who overcomes to encourage you.

  • Job – lost  all his children and his properties. From being one of the richest to nothing. He even had a skin-disease (boiled) that his wife told him to “Curse God & die.”

Job 2:9 (ESV)Then his wife said to him, “Do you still hold fast your integrity? Curse God and die.”

  • Joseph – was sold as a slave by his own brothers because of jealousy and was falsely accused of rape by Potiphar’s wife. Joseph was imprison but later become the 2nd most powerful person in Egypt.

Genesis 41:41 (ESV)
And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.”

  • Daniel – was an exile to Babylon. He was thrown to the Lion’s den by praying to God but God saved him. His enemies was later thrown to the Lion’s den and were eaten.

Daniel 6:16

So the king gave the order, and Daniel was brought and thrown into a den of lions. The king consoled Daniel by saying, “Your God whom you continually serve will rescue you!”

  • Paul – He put Christians to jail but when he encountered the Lord Jesus Christ he authored 14 of the 27 new testament book. He was imprison because of his faith Jesus but continued to encourage the believers. He died as a martyr just like the other Apostles.

Philippians 4:4  (ESV)
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.

I don’t know what are you going through right now, but I’m sure you haven’t been martyred yet. Our troubles seems so little compared to these bible heroes so take heart! Be still and know that our God is in control. Take your ground of victory!

Luke 5:1-6

Principle#2: Total dependence to God who is in control. There are days that we will fail but we continue to fight. We don’t lose heart because we believe that God is in control and the war was already won. Just like Simon Peter, we need to wash our nets to be ready for the next day’s fishing. Fishing net in the old times are not very sturdy and it needs to be cleaned and dry after every use to prolong its life. Despite a night of catch-less fishing, Peter didn’t give up and was ready to try fishing again the next day  – that’s why he took care of his fishing net.

Proverbs 24:16  (ESV)
for the righteous falls seven times and rises again,
but the wicked stumble in times of calamity.

Principle #3: Be excited everyday in meeting God and experience Him working in your life. You can find joy in God’s presence if you make the decision to love God wholeheartedly.

Before you begin your day book an appointment with God, and be excited to talk to the most powerful & loving being in the universe! Be excited every time you wake up because God is waiting to have a communion with you. Like Joshua, he finds joy in God’s presence.

Exodus 33:9-11  (ESV)
9 When Moses entered the tent, the pillar of cloud would descend and stand at the entrance of the tent, and the Lord[a] would speak with Moses. 10 And when all the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance of the tent, all the people would rise up and worship, each at his tent door. 11 Thus the Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. When Moses turned again into the camp, his assistant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, would not depart from the tent.
