Family of God

Mark 3:31-35

Jesus’ Mother and Brothers

31 And his mother and his brothers arrived, and standing outside, they sent word to him to summon him 32 And a crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, “Behold, your mother and your brothers are outside looking for you.” 33 And he answered them and* said, “Who is my mother or my brothers?” 34 And looking around at those who were sitting around him in a circle, he said, “Behold, my mother and my brothers! 35 For whoever does the will of God, this person is my brother and sister and mother.”

SINS TO AVOID:

  1. Listening or knowing Godly values is not enough – we have to walk the talk.

PROMISES TO CLAIM :

  1. The Lord Jesus Christ considered those who does the will of God to belong in the Godly family.

EXAMPLES TO FOLLOW:

COMMANDMENTS TO OBEY :

SOME OTHER TEACHINGS:

  1. 1st century culture established the person’s value by his/her family. The Lord changed that by stating that His family were those who does the will of God. People were no longer bound by their bloodline but by their hearts and attitude towards God.

Victory in Jesus!

Passage: Luke 5:1-6

5 On one occasion, while the crowd was pressing in on him to hear the word of God, he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret, 2 and he saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. 3 Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat. 4 And when he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” 5 And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.” 6 And when they had done this, they enclosed a large number of fish, and their nets were breaking.

DISCOVERY:

  1. What were the fishermen’s doing when the Lord  Jesus found them at verse 2?
  2.  How did Jesus managed to control the crowd from pressing on Him on verse 3?
  3.  What did the Lord asked Simon Peter to do in verse 4? How did Simon Peter reacted in verse 5?
  4. What was the result of Simon’s Peter’s obedience to the Lord?

UNDERSTANDING:

  1. Why cleaning or mending the net after a  catch-less night is important? What does it signify?
  2.  Why would Simon Peter still obey the Lord Jesus Christ despite his knowledge and experience about fishing?
  3. Why would the Lord Jesus care about providing a big catch to the fishermen?

APPLICATION:

  1. Describe a recent failure you had. How did you cope up?
  2. Give a biblical command that you find it difficult to follow? What does it take for you to trust God in this area of your life?
