The Mustard Seed

Mark 4:30-34

The Parable of the Mustard Seed
30 And he said, “With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or by what parable can we present it? 31 It is like a mustard seed that when sown on the ground, although it* is the smallest of all the seeds that are on the ground, 32 but when it is sown it grows up and becomes the largest of all the garden herbs, and sends out large branches so that the birds of the sky are able to nest in its shade.” 33 And with many parables such as these he was speaking the word to them, as they were able to hear it.* 34 And he did not speak to them without a parable, but in private he explained everything to his own disciples.

What to do with the Word of God?

Mark 4:26-29

The Parable of the Seed that Grows by Itself
26 And he said, “The kingdom of God is like this: like a man scatters seed on the ground. 27 And he sleeps and gets up, night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows—⌊he does not know how⌋. 28 By itself the soil produces a crop: first the grass, then the head of grain, then the full grain in the head. 29 But when the crop permits, he sends in the sickle right away, because the harvest has come.”

SINS TO AVOID:

  1. Being lazy to plant or to harvest.

PROMISES TO CLAIM :

  1. God causes the seed to grow. Even if we don’t understand how the seed grows, it’s growth is certain. God let His kingdom grows, our part is to believe and continue planting His words by sharing the gospel. Similarly, spiritual growth is certain but we need to keep planting God’s words in our hearts.
  2. Harvest is certain if we’ve planted something for God. Have faith and be ready for the harvest. We should understand that it was God who made everything to grow. In cases when there is no growth we need to be patient and wait expectantly from God.

EXAMPLES TO FOLLOW:

  1. Keep planting the word of God even in times that we don’t understand or in times that it doesn’t make sense at all.
  2. Be observant and be prepared for harvest if we see the crops are already ready. To be able to hear from God, we need to have daily connection from God.

COMMANDMENTS TO OBEY :

  1. Believe the gospel and meditate on it daily.
  2. Share the gospel to others.
  3. Be sensitive to God’s leading of the harvest. Be ready to take the harvest.

SOME OTHER TEACHINGS:

  1. Jesus compared the kingdom of God to a  a man who scatters seed on the ground.

Kingdom of God Revealed

Mark 4:21-25

The Parable of the Lamp
21 And he said to them, “Surely a lamp is not brought so that it may be put under a bushel basket or under a bed, is it? Is it not so that it may be put on a lampstand? 22 For nothing is secret except so that it may be revealed, nor has become hidden except so that it will come to light. 23 If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear!” 24 And he said to them, “Take care what you hear! With the measure by which you measure out, it will be measured out to you, and will be added to you. 25 For whoever has, more will be given to him, and whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.”

SINS TO AVOID:

  1. Hardened heart – if God is talking to you, listen and obey.
  2. Gossipping and listening to useless arguments.  Watching things full of worldly ideas and lust.

PROMISES TO CLAIM :

  1. The mystery of the Kingdom of God is granted to everyone like a lamp on the lamp stand, giving light to those who are willing to see.
  2. Whoever has more, more will be given and whoever has nothing, whatever little he had will be taken from him. In God’s economy, the faithful will receive more. Desires things that God approves, ask God, and wait expectantly for God’s provisions. Take active part in the advancement of the Kingdom of God now! Be forceful!

EXAMPLES TO FOLLOW:

  1. Be careful what you are hearing! What you hear feeds your mind, it will neither nourish it or poison it.  In the same way, be careful what you watch in TV, movies, and the internet.
  2. How do you treat others, the same standard will be used back by others in treating you. The world is round and what you did to others will be done back to you one way or the other.

COMMANDMENTS TO OBEY :

  1. Be actively involve in the spreading the gospel lovingly.  The more you take part, the more will be given to you. But if God can’t trust you with small things, how can He trust you with bigger things.
