Blowing the Trumpets

By Pastor Joseph.

1 Corinthians 14:8 NIV
Again, if the trumpet does not sound a clear call, who will get ready for battle?

A trumpet sound provides signal to the people- whether to get ready for battle, attack, or retreat.

Nehemiah 4:17-18 NIV
who were building the wall. Those who carried materials did their work with one hand and held a weapon in the other, [18] and each of the builders wore his sword at his side as he worked. But the man who sounded the trumpet stayed with me.

Joel 2:1 NIV
Blow the trumpet in Zion; sound the alarm on my holy hill. Let all who live in the land tremble, for the day of the Lord is coming. It is close at hand—

Joshua 6:6 NIV
So Joshua son of Nun called the priests and said to them, “Take up the ark of the covenant of the Lord and have seven priests carry trumpets in front of it.”

There’s a spiritual battle going on wherein people are going to hell. We need to shout a warning to people with our life’s testimony . Common concerns are churches stopped soul winning or there’s no result. Why?Some Christian research showed that churches are filled with unconverted people. People have trumpets but these are not blown. Or sometimes the trumpets are unheard because the one blowing them are not blowing hard enough.

There are also the uncertain trumpets – those who are not sure about the direction. In John 3:3 Jesus said that Nicodemus must be born again to be able to enter the Kingdom of God. This is a very certain trumpet sound. There is an ongoing war between the forces of darkness and the light, we must push on what is right and we must blow the trumpet hard to save people. Being nice is not Godly if its obstruct the truth to be known.  We must not be timid but blow the trumpet loud and clear for people to hear the warning and take action.

John 3:3 NIV
Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again. ”

2 Timothy 1:7 NIV
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.

Paul encouraged Timothy to preach the word at all times – in season and out of season. Paul wanted Timothy to guard the truth carefully – encouraging and rebuking the believers to stand on the gospel of the Lord. We as believers should be ready to preach the truth to others! We must be ready to blow our trumpets!

2 Timothy 4:2 NIV
Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.

We must study the Bible – the word of God. We must study it more than any other books. Sometimes, even Christian books can hinder us from knowing the will of the Lord – e.g. a 400-page book will talk only on 1 biblical truth. So ask God for wisdom whether you are reading enough of the Bible or not.

If you encounter problems, prioritize what the bible says versus what some people say.   And in case we fail to blow our trumpets, the Lord will surely sound it but we will lose our chance to participate and have our rewards.

Zechariah 9:14 NIV
Then the Lord will appear over them; his arrow will flash like lightning. The Sovereign Lord will sound the trumpet; he will march in the storms of the south,

What to do with the Word of God?

Mark 4:26-29

The Parable of the Seed that Grows by Itself
26 And he said, “The kingdom of God is like this: like a man scatters seed on the ground. 27 And he sleeps and gets up, night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows—⌊he does not know how⌋. 28 By itself the soil produces a crop: first the grass, then the head of grain, then the full grain in the head. 29 But when the crop permits, he sends in the sickle right away, because the harvest has come.”

  1. Being lazy to plant or to harvest.

  1. God causes the seed to grow. Even if we don’t understand how the seed grows, it’s growth is certain. God let His kingdom grows, our part is to believe and continue planting His words by sharing the gospel. Similarly, spiritual growth is certain but we need to keep planting God’s words in our hearts.
  2. Harvest is certain if we’ve planted something for God. Have faith and be ready for the harvest. We should understand that it was God who made everything to grow. In cases when there is no growth we need to be patient and wait expectantly from God.

  1. Keep planting the word of God even in times that we don’t understand or in times that it doesn’t make sense at all.
  2. Be observant and be prepared for harvest if we see the crops are already ready. To be able to hear from God, we need to have daily connection from God.

  1. Believe the gospel and meditate on it daily.
  2. Share the gospel to others.
  3. Be sensitive to God’s leading of the harvest. Be ready to take the harvest.

  1. Jesus compared the kingdom of God to a  a man who scatters seed on the ground.

Kingdom of God Revealed

Mark 4:21-25

The Parable of the Lamp
21 And he said to them, “Surely a lamp is not brought so that it may be put under a bushel basket or under a bed, is it? Is it not so that it may be put on a lampstand? 22 For nothing is secret except so that it may be revealed, nor has become hidden except so that it will come to light. 23 If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear!” 24 And he said to them, “Take care what you hear! With the measure by which you measure out, it will be measured out to you, and will be added to you. 25 For whoever has, more will be given to him, and whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.”

  1. Hardened heart – if God is talking to you, listen and obey.
  2. Gossipping and listening to useless arguments.  Watching things full of worldly ideas and lust.

  1. The mystery of the Kingdom of God is granted to everyone like a lamp on the lamp stand, giving light to those who are willing to see.
  2. Whoever has more, more will be given and whoever has nothing, whatever little he had will be taken from him. In God’s economy, the faithful will receive more. Desires things that God approves, ask God, and wait expectantly for God’s provisions. Take active part in the advancement of the Kingdom of God now! Be forceful!

  1. Be careful what you are hearing! What you hear feeds your mind, it will neither nourish it or poison it.  In the same way, be careful what you watch in TV, movies, and the internet.
  2. How do you treat others, the same standard will be used back by others in treating you. The world is round and what you did to others will be done back to you one way or the other.

  1. Be actively involve in the spreading the gospel lovingly.  The more you take part, the more will be given to you. But if God can’t trust you with small things, how can He trust you with bigger things.
